Gasfitting in Edmonton

Most of our gas calls are about two things: furnaces and water heaters. When the house is cold or the hot water runs out, that is who people call, and those are the jobs this page leads with.

EVCO Plumbing's Gas B journeymen handle gasfitting for Edmonton homes and businesses, from furnace and water heater work to a new gas line for one appliance. Gas work leaves very little room for guesswork. The line has to be sized, installed, connected, and tested properly for the appliance it serves.

  • Gas B journeymen. Qualified gasfitters handle the gas work and the permit side where a permit is required.
  • Residential and commercial. Homes, garages, shops, and renovation projects across Edmonton and surrounding areas.
  • Plumbing and gas under one roof. Water heaters, kitchens, bathrooms, and renovations do not need separate trades chasing each other.

The two calls we get most

Heat and hot water. When either one stops, everything else in the house waits.

Technician servicing a home heating unit

Furnaces

No heat, a furnace that will not start, short cycling, or a noise it did not make yesterday. We handle furnace repair and maintenance, and we would rather catch a problem early than meet it during a cold snap.

Water heaters

Gas water heater installation, repair, and replacement, plus tankless systems for hot water on demand. If the tank is aging out, we will help you compare the options before it quits.

Furnaces

Most furnace calls start the same way: the house is cold and the furnace is not keeping up, not starting, or making a noise it did not make yesterday. We handle furnace repair and maintenance for Edmonton homes, and we start by figuring out what the furnace is actually doing before anyone talks about parts.

A furnace that short cycles, blows cool air, or struggles on the coldest nights is telling you something. Catching it early usually beats an emergency call in the middle of January. If a repair stops making sense for an aging furnace, we will tell you that plainly and explain the options before any money is spent.

Before winter settles in, a few simple checks can prevent a lot of breakdowns. Our guide walks through them: 7 steps to prep your furnace for the big freeze.

Water heaters and tankless systems

No hot water can mean a repair, a replacement, or a good reason to change the type of system in the house. We install, repair, and replace gas water heaters. We also install tankless systems for continuous hot water on demand.

Choosing between a storage tank, tankless, gas, and electric depends on the house, the existing lines and venting, and how your household uses hot water. If electric is the better fit for your home, we also offer electric water heater installation.

Other gas work: lines and appliances

Beyond furnaces and water heaters, these are the gas jobs we get called for. The common thread is a properly planned gas line, a safe connection, and an appliance that works the way it should.

Modern gas cooktop in a kitchen

Gas stoves and cooktops

Gas line connections and installation for a new stove or cooktop, including replacing an existing appliance or adding gas to a kitchen renovation.

Thermostat controlling heat in an Edmonton home

Garage heaters

A heated garage can become a workshop, a safer place for vehicles and stored items, and a much more useful part of the house through an Edmonton winter. We install garage heaters and the gas line to serve them.

Outdoor natural gas barbecue on a home deck

Natural gas BBQs

A natural gas BBQ connection means no propane tank to refill in the middle of cooking. We install the line and connection so the grill is ready when you are.

Gas lines

New gas lines, extensions, repairs, and replacements for appliances throughout the home. The right route and size depend on what is being connected and where it sits.

Gasfitting for renovations

A kitchen renovation might need a gas stove connection. A garage project might need heat. A larger renovation may need new lines before walls and finishes close everything in. Because EVCO handles plumbing, gasfitting, and contracting, those pieces can be planned together instead of discovered one at a time.

See how the trades fit together on our renovations page, or read more about EVCO's contracting work.

If you smell gas

Do not try to find the leak yourself. Leave the building, avoid turning electrical switches on or off, and do not use a phone inside the area where you smell gas. Once you are safely outside, call 911 or your gas utility's emergency line. After the immediate danger has been handled, call us about the repair or replacement work that follows.

How gas estimates work

We provide estimates, and most of the time the estimate is a range. The appliance, its location, the length and route of the line, access, venting, and the condition of the existing gas system can all affect the work. If something changes once the job is opened up, we explain it as it arises.

Our labour is backed by a one-year warranty. Read the warranty details.

Common questions

My furnace quit. Is that a call for you?

Yes. Furnace calls are some of the most common gas calls we get. Tell us what the furnace is doing, or not doing, and we will take it from there.

Can you add a gas line for one new appliance?

Yes. A stove, garage heater, BBQ, or water heater may each need its own line or extension from the existing system.

Do you work on commercial projects?

Yes. EVCO handles residential and commercial gasfitting projects in Edmonton and surrounding areas.

Can plumbing and gasfitting be done in the same project?

Yes. That is one of the advantages of using EVCO for a renovation or water heater replacement. The related plumbing and gas work can be planned together.
